"Jamie jammed out our wedding a few years ago and I loved his style. Jamie rocked the dance party and curated the dinner perfectly. I loved that he worked with us to learn our style and mixed the music accordingly. I also was excited that he brought records new and old. If you are looking for a fun DJ and want a custom, hard working, energetic and passionate guy, Jamie is for you!" - Adam Schnirel

A Casual, Vintage 60’s Summer of Love Wedding

Addie and Adam wanted to do a classic 60’s retro kind of thing in their super cute old school San Francisco venue. Our conversations centered a lot around classic rock, soul music and even a little reggae. We also tried to incorporate a little bit of classic country into the mix.

An OG Hippie Family

Addie’s family had grown up on a commune in northern California and a lot of the family members were actually around in the Bay Area during the 60’s for the summer of love. We wanted to pick up some of those vibes to honor that part of the family, but also put on a bit of a show for the out of towners about what that was all really about.

This was one of the first weddings where I really built out our 60’s rock collection, focusing on a lot of garage rock things like you would find on the famous Nuggets compilations. As I recall, Addie’s brother was also into the Grateful Dead, so we did a lot of Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother and the Holding Company and Crosby Stills and Nash type stuff as well.

A 60’s Folk Ceremony

We started out with folky stuff like The Rolling Stones “You Can’t Always Get What You Want“, The Faces “Ooh La La” and Van Morrison “Everyone” before the ceremony. For the cocktail we deepened the groove to incorporate some heavier Bay Area classics like Janis Joplin “Piece of My Heart” and Jefferson Airplane “Somebody to Love”. We got all the toddlers to dance to The Kinks “Village Green Preservation Society” and I think surprised everyone by proving Bob Dylan “Subterranean Homesick Blues” to be a dance hit, which we promptly party mixed into Grateful Dead “Don’t Ease Me In.”

A 60’s Garage Dance Party

For the beginning of the dancing we did soul and girl groups, but we quickly built it up to some wild uptempo ones like The Electric Prunes “I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night”, The Knickerbockers “Lies”, The Count Five “Psychotic Reaction” and Love “7 and 7 is” but also more accessible ones like The Kingsmen “Louie Louie” and Sam Sham and the Pharoes “Wooly Bully” which we joke mixed into the Beatles classic B-Side “I’m Down” as hilariously sampled by the Beastie Boys in this rare cut.

A Reggae After Party

When everyone was tuckered out, we did some reggae elements like Led Zeppelin “D’yer Maker” and Bob Marley and the Wailers “Stop That Train.”

Big Ups & Shout Outs

Special shout out to planner Kelly Dawson who did a great job running the event and has worked with us once or twice since.

Special shout out to La Mediterranee who is a catering staple around these parts and also run by our good friend Alicia Vanden Heuvel of #Poundsign#, Aisler Set and Tim Cohen’s Magic Trick fame.

Many thanks to Addie and Adam for having us!
